Spotting ‘Safe Produced Products’

Australian Standards

So there is a lot of contradictions on the internet and sometimes it can be really hard to evaluate if a product is safe or not.

In the last week I have had two seperate incidences where a question has popped up about certain standards of products.

In Australia, there are certain requirements that have to be met when selling a product and it comes back to safety and consumers ability to purchase a product easily.

One of the questions that came up was a product for sale that had water as an ingredient. If a product has water as an ingredient the product has to have a preservative in it to stop that water from growing bacteria and fungicide and other nasties that could cause harm to the consumer. The product also has to be sent away for testing of the preservatives, to verify that they are working within the product.

Therefore, if you spot a product that is made from water and most products with water, the water is the majority of the product, then it would have to have a preservative system in place. Not having this system is actually against Australian standards, rules and regulations.

The other Australian standard of a product that was raised, was on the label. The contents of the product in the container has to be no less than the stated amount on the label. If the product becomes lighter or shrinks after it is put into the container, the maker has to allow for the drop in the amount (weight or volume etc) of product.

The weight or volume of the product has to be clearly marked on the label at the front of the label within 60 degrease of the front centre. The measurement on the label has to be at a minimum character size depending on the maximum dimension of the package. This allows consumers to easily identify the amount of contents they are purchasing and easily compare other products so they can make a better-informed choice.

If you would like to check out these standards and requirements follow the link below-

With these things in mind when purchasing products it is easier to spot a product that may be leading you up the garden path to an unsafe or uninformed purchase.

There are a few other rules and regulations Australian produces have to follow, and they vary from country to country.
